Fatigue and Brain Fog:
Common Causes and How to Fix It

Common Causes of Fatigue, Brain Fog, Low Energy, Poor Focus . . .
And How to Fix It
One of the most common symptoms I see in my office is fatigue. Fatigue can feel physical, mental, emotional, or all of the above. A full history and inquiry into how it shows up, when it shows up, and when it started is key to determining what the causes could be. The good news is, we can usually help support your stamina and optimize your energy and focus again.
- If it started after an illness, maybe it’s post-viral related, which can include inflammation, adrenal fatigue, brain fog, etc. We are seeing a lot more of this post-covid related, though it can also happen with EBV/Mono, Lyme, or if your system is low, could happen with just the common cold sometimes
- If it happened after a period of high stress, it could be adrenal related
- If I suspect blood sugar imbalance, I often have patients do a food log, and we look at how their energy fluctuates based on what they have or haven’t eaten. Whether it’s a food sensitivity, histamine issue, or blood sugar crash.
*** NOTE: this is one of the most COMMON things I see in my practice over the years. People are not eating enough or at the right times, skipping meals, improper macro balance. This is a quick fix to get people feeling SO much better pretty quickly if this is a contributing factor to their fatigue, anxiety and mood symptoms. - I always make sure to have patients get their iron, ferritin, Vit. D3, and thyroid checked, and regular labs from their PCP to rule out anemia, thyroid issues, or other imbalances that could be seen on your labs
- Poor quality sleep, irregular sleep schedule, or assessed for sleep apnea
