A recent study in PLos One found a link between BPA and insulin resistance. Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical found in the lining of canned food and most plastics has been linked to insulin resistance, even in small amounts. Insulin resistance is thought to be the underlying cause of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which leads to various symptoms including menstrual irregularities, infertility, weight gain, acne, diabetes, high blood pressure, and can put a woman at higher risk for heart disease.

Acupuncture combined with supplements, exercise and dietary changes (eg. low-glycemic diet) can significantly reduce symptoms of PCOS, promote ovulation, reduce acne, improve energy, and increase fertility.
