Brookline & Boston Acupuncture: Acupuncture for the Relief of PMS
That time of month is often a dreaded burden for many women. For some of my patients, symptoms can begin 1-2 weeks prior to the onset of the period.
Most commons symptoms:
- fatigue
- cramping
- headache
- irritability or weepy
- emotionally sensitive
- carb and sugar cravings
Other lesser known symptoms that can occur with PMS:
- sleep disturbances
- muscle achiness
- feeling like you have the flu
- nausea
- bowel disturbances
Most women feel that it is normal to have PMS and just power through it and accept it, however, you don’t have to suffer every month. Having bad PMS is usually an indicator that something is not balanced in the body (eg. nutrient deficiency, adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance, stress, etc). The good news is that a combination of acupuncture, herbs, dietary changes and supplements can make PMS a thing of the past for many women. Typically is takes 2-3 months of changes and treatments for the body to restore balance.
Making changes to your diet and adding some acupuncture can provide long lasting relief for the dreaded time of the month discomfort and mood swings.
