Acupuncture Point for Stress

By Nicole Brown, Inner Sage Boston Acupuncture & Wellness, LLC

Acupuncture for Stress —  Acupressure Point of the Month

Brookline, MA

acupuncture for stress brookline ma

I often get asked by my patients what they can do for themselves at home, especially how to relieve stress.  Aside for acupuncture for Stress relief, I am a big believer in giving patients self-care tools they can use to maintain their health and/or to help during moments of stress.

I like giving my patients emailed pictures of acupressure points and showing them how to apply the right amount of pressure to these points to do a mini-treatment themselves.  While one point isn’t going to be a full treatment, certain points can help to relieve stress in the moment if given a little stimulation.

Today’s point should be featured in my newsletters and blogs every month because it is such a major point on the body that is used everyday of my practice, multiple times a day.  I’m featuring it today because it’s nearing the end of summer, school is starting back up, weather is changing, and responsibilities increase.  We could all use a little de-stressing.

Press on point with thumb or forefinger (I tend to use knuckles, or squeeze the point between my thumb and forefinger), hold for 20 seconds, rest, repeat 3-4 times.  Apply enough pressure to feel some pressure or soreness, but not too much that you hurt yourself.

You can also use magnets to stimulate the point — place one magnet sticker over the point and leave it on for up to 24 hours.  Magnets are re-usable.  If the adhesive on the sticker portion fades, you can stick the magnet on the the adhesive sticky part of a band-aid to re-use it.

You can find home-use magnets here:

LIVER 3 — Third point on the Liver channel

Located between the 1st and 2nd toes on both feet — find the tender spot

Uses:

  • de-stress!!!
  • move stagnation — if you feel stuck physically or emotionally
  • release tension, especially in the neck and shoulder area
  • helpful to press before sleep for easier time falling asleep

Stay tuned for future “points of the month”.   Feel free to leave me some suggestions for points you’d like to learn about — eg. how to stay grounded, or points for PMS, etc.  Leave me a note on my FB page, or comment below.
